February 17th is Random Act of Kindness Day!
We here at Macaroni Kid challenge you to pay it forward on February 17th to as many people as you possibly can! Any good deed will do, and once you start we know that it will be very difficult to stop!

George Washington Cherry Turnovers

 

In honor of President's day, we thought we would share a festive recipe for Cherry Turnovers. We heard they were George Washington's favorite !!

1 pkg of frozen puff pastry

1 can of cherry pie filling

1 egg

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup heavy cream

Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut into 6 squares (you will get 6 squares out of one sheet.)

Fill each square with about 1 and 1/2 Tbsp of the cherry pie filling.

 As a practicing dental hygienist, the biggest problem I see is the over-consumption of sweetened beverages. With kids, this is usually in the form of juice. My daughter and I attended a festival quite a few months ago, where they were doing crafts with duct tape. I, at the time, had never made anything with duct tape, so we nervously sat down and made a fabulous crown using only duct tape.

Fentons Creamery Monthly Creation Stop in to Fentons Creamery at the Nut Tree in Vacaville where the Myrtle’s Monthly Creation to benefit the Food Bank has been extended another month! The February sundae features a new sundae, "Nuts About Toffee!". 25% of the sales from this treat go directly to our Food Bank. You will also be able to donate nonperishable food items at the store. Volunteers will have a table in the lobby on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm during the month to answer questions about the Food Bank and distribute literature to Fentons guests.

Kids Healthy Eating Rewards Chart

With the new year most of the country, like myself, vow to eat cleaner. Here is a simple and fun activity to do with the kids. It can help remind them that eating healthy is fun, engaging and rewarding.

Strawberry Filled Cupcake Cones

Wrap the cones in aluminum foil, and place in cupcake pans.

Follow cake mix directions of your choice, and fill the cone ½-1/3 full. We used a strawberry box mix.

Follow the cupcake directions for time and degree, as shown on your mix box, or your ‘from scratch’ recipe.

When finished baking, the cake should have filled the rest of the cone.

Let cool.
